What's Happening?
The International Society of Automation (ISA) has released a new technical report, ISA-TR62443-2-2-2025, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity for industrial automation and control systems (IACS). This report is part
of the ISA/IEC 62443 series, which is a globally recognized set of standards for cybersecurity in automation and control systems. The new guidance provides a comprehensive framework for developing, validating, and maintaining security protection schemes for IACS. It emphasizes a risk-based approach, integrating technical controls, process maturity, and accountability to manage cyber threats effectively. Eric Cosman, co-chair of ISA99, highlighted the report's role in helping asset owners and operators sustain cyber protection throughout the IACS lifecycle.
Why It's Important?
The release of this new cybersecurity guidance is significant as it addresses the growing need for robust security measures in industrial control systems, which are increasingly targeted by cyber threats. By providing a structured approach to cybersecurity, the ISA report helps organizations protect critical infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity and safety. This is particularly important in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, and transportation, where disruptions can have severe economic and safety implications. The guidance also supports compliance with international cybersecurity standards, enhancing global competitiveness and trust in U.S. industrial systems.
