Brookfield Corporation has announced the rebranding of its retail division, Brookfield Properties Retail, back to the GGP name. This move comes after Brookfield led GGP, a major U.S. shopping center operator,
out of bankruptcy in 2010 and acquired the remaining 70% of the company in 2018, subsequently renaming it. The decision to revert to the GGP name is aimed at improving interactions with retailers, mall tenants, and suppliers. GGP, now a stand-alone entity under Brookfield, manages over 100 shopping centers across the U.S., including notable locations like Ala Moana in Honolulu and Tysons Galleria in Virginia. Kevin McCrain, CEO of GGP, stated that the rebranding allows the company to operate more independently while still benefiting from Brookfield's extensive resources.
