What's Happening?
Eaton, an intelligent power management company, has announced a significant investment of over $30 million to expand its operations in Nebraska. The company plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Bellevue, near Omaha, to produce medium-voltage
switchgear. This equipment is crucial for protecting, controlling, and isolating electrical systems in data centers, utilities, and industrial power generation. The expansion is driven by the increasing demand from nearly 3,000 planned U.S. data centers, which require modular and scalable power systems. The new facility, spanning 370,000 square feet, is expected to begin production in 2027 and will create over 200 jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and production.
Why It's Important?
Eaton's investment in Nebraska is a strategic move to address the growing demand for electrical infrastructure in the U.S., particularly from the booming AI data center sector. The U.S. switchgear market is projected to grow significantly, from $17.8 billion in 2024 to $31.8 billion by 2034. By expanding its manufacturing capabilities, Eaton aims to provide faster and more efficient solutions to its customers, enhancing the speed and quality of power systems deployment. This expansion not only supports the local economy by creating jobs but also strengthens Eaton's position in the global market for power management solutions.
What's Next?
Production at the new facility is set to begin in the first half of 2027, with hiring for the new roles expected to start later this year. Eaton plans to transition existing employees to the new location over time. The company is committed to continuing its investments in U.S. manufacturing, supported by local government and community leaders. Eaton's expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance its global manufacturing capacity, which has seen investments totaling over $1.5 billion since 2023.
