What's Happening?
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has introduced the IMCA Next Generation Network, a global initiative aimed at supporting early career professionals in the marine construction sector. This network is designed to enhance development
pathways for junior workers and is a key component of IMCA's strategic focus on people, competency, and skills. The network will provide a platform for young professionals to connect with peers and industry leaders, fostering innovation and collaboration. It is structured around three core pillars: Inspire, Connect, and Develop, which focus on raising awareness of offshore careers, building a global peer community, and providing mentoring and technical insights. The initiative is overseen by IMCA's People Committee and aims to attract and nurture a diverse and skilled workforce over the next decade.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the IMCA Next Generation Network is significant as it addresses the growing need for skilled professionals in the rapidly transforming offshore energy sector. As markets expand and digital systems mature, there is an increasing demand for new technical skill sets and strong leadership. By providing structured development routes and mentoring opportunities, the network aims to equip early career professionals with the necessary skills and confidence to thrive in the industry. This initiative not only supports individual career growth but also ensures the long-term resilience and competitiveness of the marine construction sector by fostering a capable and adaptable workforce.
What's Next?
The IMCA Next Generation Network will continue to engage early career professionals through various events and initiatives. Members of IMCA are encouraged to nominate young colleagues to join the network and participate as mentors. The network's activities will be highlighted at upcoming events, including the IMCA Global Summit 2026 in Antwerp, Belgium. As the network grows, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the marine contracting sector by providing clear career progression pathways and fostering leadership skills among young professionals.
