What's Happening?
Applied Nutrition, a UK-based sports nutrition company, has acquired the majority of assets from the US-based Nutrablend Group for $16 million. This acquisition includes a production and logistics facility
in Buffalo, New York, which is equipped with powder filling lines and stick-pack filling machines. Nutrablend's in-house supplement brands, Basic Supplements and GR8 Lifestyle, are also part of the transaction. The acquisition is expected to enhance Applied Nutrition's footprint in North America, providing production capacity of up to $300 million in revenue per year. The company plans to move powder manufacturing from its UK base to the Buffalo facility, aiming to reduce freight, logistics, and import duty costs while increasing operational resilience.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition marks a significant expansion for Applied Nutrition in the North American market, allowing the company to better meet consumer demand and improve supply chain efficiency. By acquiring Nutrablend's assets, Applied Nutrition can launch new products at a faster pace, reinforcing its competitive advantage. The deal also brings around 100 Nutrablend employees into the group, including management and R&D staff, which could enhance the company's innovation capabilities. Additionally, the acquisition is expected to be earnings enhancing, contributing at least an extra $30 million of revenue with a high single-digit EBITDA margin.
What's Next?
Following the acquisition, Applied Nutrition plans to integrate Nutrablend's brands into its AN Supps business and operate its white-label manufacturing arm as AN Labz. The company has also announced a licensing agreement with Mondelez International to co-brand sports-nutrition products under the AN Supps, Sour Patch Kids, and Swedish Fish brands. These products are set to go on sale in August, initially stocked in Walmart and GNC stores. Applied Nutrition's upgraded financial outlook for the year ending July 31 reflects strong trading and continued momentum across the group.
