What's Happening?
VRWERX, the developer of the hybrid horror game 'Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul,' announced that the game will soon be removed from all platforms due to the expiration of its licensing agreement with Paramount. The game, which debuted in August 2017
on Steam and PlayStation VR, and later on Meta Quest, is currently available at a discount as part of a 'delisting' sale. Despite initial plans to expand the game with new content, financial constraints and the lack of a renewed license have led to the decision to cease its availability.
Why It's Important?
The delisting of 'Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul' underscores the challenges faced by developers in maintaining and expanding licensed games. Licensing agreements are crucial for the continued availability and development of games based on popular franchises. The expiration of such agreements can lead to the removal of games from digital storefronts, affecting both developers and consumers. This situation highlights the importance of sustainable financial models and licensing strategies in the gaming industry, particularly for smaller developers who may struggle to secure long-term agreements.
