What's Happening?
The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) is seeking candidates for a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) position. This role is part of a project aimed at developing rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) biosensor kits to detect antibiotic residues in milk. The initiative is crucial for ensuring food safety in the dairy industry by providing quick and reliable diagnostic tools that can be used at farms or collection centers. The project is supported by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, and offers a nine-month tenure, extendable based on performance. Candidates with a background in biotechnology, life sciences, or related fields, and at least two years of experience in biosensor development,
are encouraged to apply. The position offers a monthly stipend of ₹42,000 plus housing rent allowance.
Why It's Important?
This project addresses a significant concern in the dairy supply chain—antibiotic contamination in milk. By developing easy-to-use diagnostic kits, NIFTEM aims to enhance food safety and quality control in the dairy sector. This initiative not only supports public health by reducing the risk of antibiotic exposure but also aligns with regulatory standards set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and international guidelines. The project provides a platform for researchers to contribute to advancements in nanotechnology and biosensor applications, potentially influencing future food safety protocols and industry practices.
What's Next?
Interested candidates must submit their applications by January 10, 2026. The selection process involves shortlisting candidates for interviews, which will be communicated via email. Successful applicants will engage in developing and optimizing immunoassays and ensuring regulatory compliance. The project could lead to further research opportunities and collaborations in the field of diagnostic biotechnology, potentially expanding to other areas of food safety and quality assurance.
