What's Happening?
Hike Revelstoke hosted a free backpacking workshop for women at Eagle Pass Lodge, aimed at empowering female hikers by teaching essential outdoor skills. The workshop, led by Dana Harvey and Nat Segal, provided participants with hands-on experience in gear
selection, bear safety, and navigation. The event was designed to create a comfortable learning environment for women, addressing the underrepresentation of women in outdoor recreation. The workshop also fostered community among participants, encouraging them to pursue outdoor activities with confidence.
Why It's Important?
This workshop highlights the ongoing efforts to increase female participation in outdoor activities, addressing gender disparities in the field. By providing a supportive environment, the workshop helps women gain confidence and skills necessary for safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences. Such initiatives can inspire more women to engage in outdoor recreation, potentially leading to increased representation in related industries and activities. The workshop also emphasizes the importance of community and peer support in overcoming barriers to participation.
