What's Happening?
Global operator Sparkle and Bolivian state-owned telco Entel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a new terrestrial fibre route connecting Lima, Peru, and São Paulo, Brazil. This 4,370 km route will serve as a low-latency alternative to existing
subsea cable routes, addressing the growing demand for scalable and resilient connectivity in the region. The project aims to enhance digital services by providing high-performance connectivity to gaming companies, ISPs, OTT platforms, and data centers. The new route promises improved performance with latencies below 60ms, compared to over 120ms on current long-haul subsea routes.
