What's Happening?
Disney Cruise Line and the Port of San Diego have announced a new agreement extending their partnership through at least 2031. This agreement will approximately double the number of Disney cruises departing
from San Diego each year. The expansion will offer guests more opportunities to embark on vacations to destinations such as Catalina Island, Baja, and the Mexican Riviera. The agreement secures Disney non-exclusive priority access to the Port’s North and South berths, enhancing the passenger experience and supporting the Port's cruise operations.
Why It's Important?
This extended agreement between Disney Cruise Line and the Port of San Diego is significant for the local economy, as it is expected to bring over 1 million Disney passengers through the Port during the agreement's duration. This influx of visitors will support local businesses and create jobs related to cruise operations, tourism, and port activities. The partnership also underscores Disney's commitment to the San Diego community, where it has been operating since 2012, and its efforts to contribute positively through collaborations with local nonprofits focused on youth empowerment and environmental conservation.
What's Next?
San Diego will soon welcome two Disney Cruise Line ships for the 2026-2027 season, expanding West Coast sailing options. The Disney Magic will arrive in October, offering voyages through November, followed by a Panama Canal transit to Galveston. The Disney Wonder will homeport in San Diego from October 2026 through April 2027, offering itineraries to various destinations. This expansion is part of Disney Cruise Line's global growth strategy, ensuring San Diego remains a key gateway for its cruise operations.
