What's Happening?
ATR, a Toulouse-based turboprop manufacturer, is advancing its presence in the premium market with its HighLine series of upmarket cabin concepts. The company is set to deliver its first two line-built aircraft in a 26-seat, all-business-class configuration.
Berjaya Air, part of the Berjaya leisure group, is the launch customer for HighLine, utilizing the ATR 72-600 to transport guests to coastal resorts and hotels. The HighLine offerings have been adopted by Asia-Pacific airlines, with Air Tahiti selecting an all-business-class cabin for new ATR 72-600s. The HighLine series includes features like specially designed Eterea seats and the removal of overhead baggage compartments to enhance passenger experience. ATR aims to deliver 50 aircraft with HighLine interiors over the next decade, marking a significant shift towards more premium cabins in commercial aviation.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of ATR's HighLine cabin concepts signifies a strategic move to capture a growing market segment focused on premium travel experiences. This development is crucial for ATR as it seeks to differentiate itself in the competitive aviation industry by offering enhanced in-flight experiences. The move aligns with a broader trend in commercial aviation towards more luxurious and personalized travel options, catering to high-end tourists and business travelers. For U.S. tourists, the availability of premium cabins on regional flights could enhance travel experiences, particularly for those arriving on long-haul flights. Additionally, the success of HighLine could bolster ATR's market presence and sales prospects, especially in the U.S. regional market, where it aims to reignite interest in its aircraft.
What's Next?
ATR plans to continue expanding its HighLine offerings, with expectations to deliver 50 aircraft featuring these premium interiors over the next decade. The company is also working on ramping up production to pre-pandemic levels, aiming for an annual production of 60 units by the end of the decade. As ATR collaborates with partners like UUDS for aircraft outfitting, it remains focused on strengthening its supply chain and production capabilities. The success of HighLine could lead to further innovations in cabin design and potentially influence other manufacturers to explore similar premium offerings.
