What's Happening?
Boise State University's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, Matt Miller, is set to leave the Broncos to join Washington State University as their new offensive coordinator. This move comes
as Kirby Moore, a former Boise State wide receiver and the brother of Kellen Moore, was recently appointed as the head coach of the Cougars. Miller, who has been a part of Boise State's coaching staff since 2020, has a notable history with the team, having been a standout wide receiver from 2010 to 2014. During his tenure as a player, he set records for receptions and was a key figure in the team's offensive lineup. His coaching career began at Boise State in 2015, and he has since held various coaching positions, including a stint at Montana State. Under his guidance, players like Cameron Camper and Eric McAlister have thrived, with McAlister eventually transferring to TCU and Camper earning all-Mountain West honorable mention.
Why It's Important?
Miller's departure marks a significant change for Boise State's coaching staff, which has been instrumental in the team's recent successes, including capturing a third straight Mountain West title. His move to Washington State is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Cougars' offensive strategies, potentially impacting their performance in upcoming seasons. For Boise State, this transition could lead to adjustments in their coaching dynamics and strategies, as they seek to maintain their competitive edge in the Mountain West Conference. The move also highlights the interconnected nature of college football coaching careers, where relationships and past affiliations often influence career trajectories.
What's Next?
As Miller transitions to his new role at Washington State, Boise State will need to fill the vacancy left by his departure. This presents an opportunity for the Broncos to reassess and potentially revamp their offensive coaching strategies. Head coach Spencer Danielson has expressed confidence in the current staff, indicating that while changes are inevitable, the focus will remain on growth and improvement. Meanwhile, Washington State will likely integrate Miller's expertise into their game plans, aiming to enhance their offensive capabilities under the leadership of Kirby Moore.
