What's Happening?
The Kelowna Rockets' special jerseys, worn during the opening night of the Memorial Cup, are being auctioned to support The Royal Canadian Legion's Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund. The jerseys, which were part of a tradition since 2008, honor the Royal Canadian Legion's 100th
anniversary. The design is inspired by the Royal Canadian Mint's proof silver dollar and features the phrase 'Honouring Kelowna Veterans' along the neckline. The auction is taking place on CHL.ca/auctions and will close at 11 a.m. ET on Monday. The jerseys were worn during Kelowna's 5-0 loss to Kitchener, with several NHL draft picks in the lineup.
Why It's Important?
This auction not only supports a significant cause by aiding veterans but also highlights the intersection of sports and community service. The proceeds will benefit the Poppy Trust Fund, which provides financial assistance to veterans and their families. The initiative underscores the role of sports teams in fostering community engagement and supporting charitable causes. It also reflects the broader cultural importance of honoring veterans and recognizing their contributions.
