What's Happening?
U Mobile's enterprise division, U Business, has successfully completed a proof of concept (PoC) for a 5G-IoT solution aimed at enhancing the tracking of high-value air cargo. This project was conducted in collaboration with Malaysian courier service operator
City-Link Express, with Qualcomm providing its terrestrial positioning service. The trial involved transporting high-value shipments from City-Link Express's main hub to various cargo terminals, utilizing Qualcomm trackers to monitor location and conditions such as shock and temperature. The integration of U Business's Ultra IoT connectivity and Qualcomm's technology provided real-time visibility, significantly improving shipment verification and operational review times.
Why It's Important?
The successful trial of this 5G-IoT solution marks a significant advancement in logistics and supply chain management, particularly for high-value shipments. By reducing shipment verification time by up to 90% and operational review time by 70%, the technology offers substantial efficiency gains. This improvement in real-time tracking and data accuracy enhances accountability and planning, crucial for industries dealing with sensitive goods like pharmaceuticals. The ability to provide objective data on shipment conditions can transform incident resolution processes, offering logistics providers a competitive edge in handling high-value assets with greater accountability.
What's Next?
Following the successful trial, U Business and City-Link Express may consider expanding the use of this 5G-IoT solution across more routes and potentially other logistics partners. The positive results could encourage further adoption of similar technologies in the logistics industry, prompting other companies to explore 5G-IoT solutions for enhanced cargo tracking. Additionally, the data-driven insights gained from this technology could lead to improved route optimization and capacity planning, further enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
