Tencent has announced a significant integration between PayPal and its WeChat Pay network, allowing U.S. PayPal users to make purchases across China using WeChat Pay's QR-code merchant network. This development was confirmed by Tencent Financial Technology's
vice president, Daniel Hong, who stated that the service will initially be available to U.S. users and will gradually roll out to PayPal users in other markets. The integration is part of Tencent's broader strategy to enhance cross-border payment capabilities through its TenPay Global platform. The company is also offering incentives such as temporary fee waivers for foreign bank cards linked to WeChat Pay, valid through 2026. Additionally, Tencent plans to expand language support and provide on-the-ground assistance for international users in Shenzhen, particularly in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in November.
