What's Happening?
Embark Studios' extraction shooter, Arc Raiders, has experienced a significant decline in its player base on Steam, losing nearly 80% of its players since the beginning of 2026. Initially, the game saw a peak of almost 482,000 players shortly after its launch
in November 2025. However, by April 16, 2026, the 24-hour peak had dropped to just 90,138 players. Despite this decline, Arc Raiders remains the 15th most-played game on Steam, surpassing other popular multiplayer titles like Overwatch and Marvel Rivals. The drop in player count is attributed to several factors, including the natural progression of players moving on to other games and complaints from fans about a lack of engaging content. Embark Studios has acknowledged these concerns and plans to release the Riven Tides update later in April, which promises new content that may help boost player numbers.
Why It's Important?
The decline in Arc Raiders' player base highlights the challenges faced by game developers in maintaining player engagement over time. As players seek new experiences, games must continually offer fresh content to retain their audience. The upcoming Riven Tides update is crucial for Embark Studios as it aims to address player concerns and reinvigorate interest in the game. The situation underscores the competitive nature of the gaming industry, where player retention is vital for a game's success. The ability to adapt and respond to player feedback can significantly impact a game's longevity and profitability.
What's Next?
Embark Studios is set to release the Riven Tides update later in April, which is expected to introduce a new large Arc enemy and a brand-new map. This update is anticipated to attract players back to the game and potentially increase the player count. The studio will likely continue to monitor player feedback and make adjustments to ensure the game remains engaging. The success of this update could influence future content strategies and development priorities for Arc Raiders.
