What's Happening?
The 2026 Accounting MOVE Project survey is now open for participation, focusing on how caregiving responsibilities affect accounting professionals' career progression. The survey, themed 'Caught in the Middle,' aims to explore the impact of caregiving and
other non-work responsibilities on retention and leadership within accounting firms. According to Bonnie Buol Ruszczyk, president of the Accounting MOVE Project, firms often overlook the full picture regarding employee retention, particularly how caregiving needs influence who stays and advances within a company. The survey is supported by several organizations, including the Center for Accounting Transformation and the American Institute of CPAs. Early registration by April 30 offers a 10% discount on participation fees.
Why It's Important?
The survey's findings could significantly influence how accounting firms address employee retention and leadership development. By understanding the role of caregiving in professional advancement, firms can implement policies that better support their workforce, potentially leading to improved retention rates and a stronger leadership pipeline. This is particularly crucial as the accounting industry seeks to diversify its leadership and retain talent in a competitive market. The insights gained could also inform broader discussions on work-life balance and the integration of personal responsibilities into professional environments.
What's Next?
The results of the survey will be published in October, alongside the 2026 Best CPA Firms for Women and Best CPA Firms for Equity Leadership. These findings are expected to provide actionable insights for firms looking to enhance their workplace culture and support for underrepresented groups. As firms analyze the data, they may consider revising their policies to better accommodate employees' caregiving responsibilities, potentially setting new industry standards for employee support and retention strategies.
