What's Happening?
The Words Across Europe VR Writing Program has announced its 2026 cohort, consisting of nine writers from various European countries. This initiative, co-funded by the European Union's Creative Europe Media and Wide Eye Films, aims to bridge the gap between
European and U.S. writing practices by providing a collaborative environment in virtual reality. Participants will engage in masterclasses and networking events, culminating in pitching their projects to European TV producers. The program seeks to enhance the collaborative skills of European writers, traditionally accustomed to working solo.
Why It's Important?
This program is significant as it addresses the disparity in writing practices between Europe and the U.S., where collaborative writers' rooms are more common. By fostering collaboration, the initiative could lead to more dynamic and diverse storytelling in European media. It also provides a platform for emerging writers to gain exposure and potentially influence the European drama ecosystem. The program's success could encourage similar initiatives, promoting cross-cultural exchanges and innovation in the global entertainment industry.
