What's Happening?
Jotun's Hull Skating Solutions (HSS) has received independent verification from DNV, confirming that vessels using HSS maintain clean hulls without measurable speed loss. This verification is based on physical
in-water inspections and performance monitoring in line with ISO 19030 standards. The inspections, conducted on 33 vessels, consistently showed no fouling, while performance data from 12 vessels indicated no speed loss over an average of 3.5 years. HSS employs a robotic HullSkater to proactively clean hulls, preventing fouling and maintaining vessel speed. This development marks a significant milestone in hull performance management, providing a new benchmark for hull cleanliness and operational efficiency.
Why It's Important?
The verification of Jotun's HSS by DNV is crucial for the maritime industry as it offers a reliable method to maintain vessel speed and efficiency, which is vital for operational cost management and environmental compliance. By ensuring hull cleanliness, HSS helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with global decarbonization goals. This proactive approach to hull maintenance can lead to significant cost savings for shipping companies and contribute to sustainable maritime operations. The independent verification also provides ship operators with confidence in the system's effectiveness, potentially influencing industry standards and practices.
