What's Happening?
Kongsberg Maritime has announced the expansion of its Underwater Mountable, Permanent Magnet (UUC PM) azimuth thruster range by introducing two new models. These new models, with propeller diameters of 3.8
meters and 4.1 meters, deliver thrusts of 86 and 91 metric tons, respectively. The company plans to further extend the range with future models offering up to 5.5 meters in diameter and power ratings of 6000 kW. This expansion is part of Kongsberg's strategy to support larger vessels and more demanding applications in the offshore energy sector. The UUC PM thruster range is designed for easy underwater mounting and removal, which reduces vessel downtime and maintenance costs. The thrusters are equipped with sensors for live condition monitoring, enhancing their efficiency and reliability for offshore support vessels and drilling rigs.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Kongsberg Maritime's thruster range is significant for the offshore energy sector, as it addresses the growing demand for more powerful and efficient propulsion solutions. The new models offer higher thrust in a smaller footprint, which is crucial for vessels operating in challenging environments. This development supports the industry's shift towards more sustainable and cost-effective operations by minimizing maintenance interruptions and ensuring rapid return to operation. The ability to store spare units globally and manage full maintenance projects provides operators with a comprehensive lifecycle support solution, enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
What's Next?
Kongsberg Maritime plans to continue expanding its UUC PM thruster range, with future models expected to offer even larger diameters and higher power ratings. This ongoing development will likely attract more customers in the offshore energy sector, particularly those operating larger vessels in demanding environments. The company's focus on innovation and customer needs positions it well to capture a significant share of the market for advanced marine propulsion solutions.
