What's Happening?
Anthropic, an artificial intelligence firm, has announced the launch of 'Claude Corps', a program with a $150 million budget aimed at training young tech professionals and nonprofit staff in using its Claude agentic AI model. The initiative, in partnership
with nonprofits CodePath and Social Finance, will initially train 100 fellows, with plans to expand to 1,000 fellows across 400 nonprofits. The program includes a $10,000 grant for participating organizations and offers fellows a salary and benefits. Applications are open for the first cohort starting in October, with additional cohorts planned for 2027.
Why It's Important?
This initiative represents a significant investment in AI education and workforce development, particularly within the nonprofit sector. By equipping young professionals with AI skills, Anthropic aims to foster innovation and efficiency in nonprofit operations. The program also highlights the growing intersection of technology and social impact, as well as the importance of upskilling in an increasingly digital economy. The involvement of Social Finance in managing the program's philanthropic capital underscores the role of innovative financing in supporting large-scale educational initiatives.
What's Next?
Applications for the Claude Corps program are currently open, with the first cohort set to begin in October. As the program expands, it will be important to monitor its impact on both the participants and the nonprofit organizations involved. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for similar programs in other sectors, potentially influencing how AI training is approached in the future. Additionally, the recent export control directive from the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding Anthropic's AI models may affect the company's operations and future plans.
