The exhibit, titled 'ʻO Ka Wai Mai مي From Lahaina to the Litani,' features works by four artists who aim to express solidarity and raise awareness about water's critical role in communities. The Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts has committed to purchasing five artworks from the exhibition, underscoring the cultural and social significance of the theme. The exhibition is open to the public at the UH Mānoa gallery.
Why It's Important?
The exhibition sheds light on the universal importance of water as a resource and its impact on cultural and political self-determination.
By connecting regions as diverse as Hawaiʻi and Lebanon, the exhibit highlights the shared challenges and aspirations related to water access and management. This artistic initiative not only raises awareness but also fosters dialogue about environmental and social justice issues. The commitment by the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to purchase artworks from the exhibit further emphasizes the importance of supporting cultural expressions that address global challenges.
