What's Happening?
The Hospitality Alliance for Responsible Procurement (HARP) was launched in the first quarter of 2023, bringing together major hotel groups such as Accor, Hilton, IHG, and Marriott. This initiative aims to create unified sustainability assessments using
EcoVadis scorecards. HARP focuses on improving supplier sustainability performance, driving measurable improvements in environmental, social, and ethical practices, and enhancing industry alignment and efficiency. The alliance seeks to reduce duplication and increase transparency through a harmonized approach, signaling a strong commitment to sustainability within the hospitality industry.
Why It's Important?
The formation of HARP represents a significant step towards sustainability in the hospitality industry, which is increasingly prioritizing responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship. By aligning major hotel groups around common sustainability goals, HARP aims to drive industry-wide improvements and set a standard for responsible procurement. This initiative could lead to more sustainable practices across the supply chain, benefiting the environment and enhancing the reputation of participating companies. It also reflects a growing trend towards corporate responsibility and could influence other industries to adopt similar collaborative approaches.
