What's Happening?
Major League Baseball (MLB) is hosting its annual PLAY BALL Weekend from June 5-7, 2026, with events scheduled across six continents. The initiative aims to increase participation in baseball and softball through over 200 activities organized by MLB,
its clubs, and international partners. The weekend will feature events in various locations, including Mount Rushmore and Pittsburgh, where MLB Youth Ambassador Coach Ballgame will lead activities. The initiative focuses on connecting youth from diverse backgrounds and closing equity gaps in accessing the game. All 30 MLB clubs will participate, wearing special PLAY BALL patches, and distributing 60,000 Franklin PLAY BALL sets for casual play.
Why It's Important?

The initiative also addresses equity in sports by providing access to equipment and opportunities for youth from various backgrounds. This effort not only helps grow the sport but also strengthens MLB's brand and influence internationally, potentially increasing its fan base and future talent pool.

Following PLAY BALL Weekend, MLB plans to continue its youth engagement efforts through year-round activities and partnerships. The Diamond Kinetics app will offer virtual PLAY BALL experiences, allowing kids to participate in baseball activities anytime. MLB will also maintain its collaboration with partners like Franklin Sports and the U.S. Conference of Mayors to support ongoing youth programs.
