What's Happening?
Starcore International Mines, operating the San Martin Mine in Mexico, reported production results for the first fiscal quarter ending October 2025. The mine produced 51,960 tonnes with gold and silver
grades of 1.33 grams per tonne and 14.48 grams per tonne, respectively. The company faced challenges due to clay presence in the ore, causing a preg-robbing effect, and fine particles of activated carbon mixing with the pulp, which absorbed gold and silver, reducing recovery rates. To address these issues, Starcore optimized the use of the carbon-in-lead plant to improve gold recovery. Despite these challenges, the company remains focused on producing profitable ounces from multiple ore sources requiring different processing methods.
Why It's Important?
The optimization efforts by Starcore highlight the challenges faced by mining companies in maintaining production efficiency and profitability. Addressing ore-related issues is crucial for maximizing recovery rates and ensuring sustainable operations. The company's ability to adapt its processing methods to overcome these challenges demonstrates resilience and innovation in the mining industry. This is significant for stakeholders, including investors and local communities, as it impacts economic outcomes and employment opportunities. The focus on precious metals production in Mexico also underscores the importance of the region in global mining operations.
