GKN Aerospace has partnered with the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to launch TITAN-AM, a $8.4 million program aimed at advancing Laser Metal Deposition with Wire (LMD-w) technology for aerospace applications. The initiative focuses on industrializing
LMD-w processes for large-scale titanium aerostructure components, developing robust material datasets, optimizing structural design through advanced simulation, and tailoring non-destructive inspection techniques for additive manufacturing. The program will be executed from GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre in Fort Worth, Texas.
