Two former SpaceX employees, Sara Spangelo and Ben Longmier, have launched a new startup, Ambrosia Energy, aimed at providing continuous energy solutions for hyperscalers using solar power combined with
lithium-ion batteries. The company plans to construct power plants that are cheaper and faster to build than traditional natural gas stations, with the goal of reaching gigawatt-level capacity. Ambrosia Energy's approach involves simplifying battery packs to charge slowly during the day and discharge steadily at night, thereby extending the lifespan of the equipment. The startup has secured investment from DFJ Growth and aims to reduce the cost of energy production to $100 per megawatt-hour, compared to the current $107 at efficient gas turbine plants.
