What's Happening?
Soma Gold is implementing TOMRA Mining's sensor-based sorting technology at its El Bagre site in Colombia to improve mineral processing efficiency. The technology integrates X-Ray Transmission (XRT) with AI tools, OBTAIN and CONTAIN, to accurately classify
particles and separate valuable minerals from waste. This approach aims to enhance material utilization, reduce energy consumption, and optimize plant throughput. Soma conducted successful tests at TOMRA's Test Centre, confirming the technology's effectiveness in improving mineral material processing.
Why It's Important?
The adoption of advanced sorting technology by Soma Gold represents a significant step towards more sustainable and efficient mining operations. By improving the precision of mineral separation, the company can reduce energy usage and operational costs, contributing to more environmentally friendly practices. This technological advancement also supports the mining industry's broader goals of increasing resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact, aligning with global sustainability initiatives.
What's Next?
Soma Gold plans to fully integrate the TOMRA sorting technology into its processing flowsheet, enhancing material flow and process stability. As the company moves towards full implementation, the technology is expected to become a core component of its operational strategy. The success of this initiative may encourage other mining companies to adopt similar technologies, driving innovation and sustainability in the industry.
