What's Happening?
Two episodes of Doctor Who from 1965, starring Peter Purves as the Doctor's companion, have been released after being found in a private film collection. These episodes, part of a mostly lost 12-part adventure called 'The Daleks’ Master Plan,' were discovered
by Film is Fabulous, a charitable trust focused on preserving private collections. The episodes, 'The Nightmare Begins' and 'Devil’s Planet,' were restored and made available on iPlayer in the UK. They will also be shown at a sold-out event at Riverside Studios in London. This marks the first time since 2013 that missing Doctor Who episodes have been found.
Why It's Important?
The release of these episodes is significant for Doctor Who fans, as 95 episodes from the 1960s remain missing due to the BBC's past practices of wiping tapes to save space. The discovery adds to the cultural preservation of the series, offering fans a glimpse into the early years of the show. It also highlights the ongoing efforts by organizations like Film is Fabulous to recover and restore lost media, which is crucial for maintaining the historical legacy of television.
