What's Happening?
The Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba has been awarded its first Green Globe certification, recognizing its commitment to sustainability. The hotel, located on a former coconut plantation, has implemented several eco-friendly initiatives. Each of its 49
private casitas is equipped with compost bins to transform organic waste into compost and liquid fertilizer, supporting the hotel's lush gardens. The hotel also uses a Reverse Osmosis system to produce fresh water, covering up to 30% of its water needs, primarily for garden irrigation and toilet flushing. Additionally, the hotel has installed 80 solar panels and uses 100% LED lighting, achieving significant energy savings.
Why It's Important?
The Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba's initiatives highlight the growing trend of sustainable tourism, which is crucial for preserving natural resources and reducing carbon footprints. By integrating eco-friendly practices, the hotel not only reduces its environmental impact but also educates guests on sustainable living. This approach can serve as a model for other hotels and resorts, promoting responsible tourism that benefits both the environment and local communities. The hotel's efforts also support Aruba's broader goals of sustainability and conservation, contributing to the island's ecological and economic resilience.
