What's Happening?
Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), Nigeria's first large-scale gold mining company, has expanded its Livelihood Restoration Programme to support cocoa and plantain farmers in Osun State. The initiative includes the third phase of the Cocoa Rehabilitation
Programme and the first phase of the Plantain Rehabilitation Programme, benefiting 100 farmers across SROL's host communities. The programme aims to enhance agricultural productivity and income generation by providing high-yield seedlings and agrochemicals. This expansion reflects SROL's commitment to contributing to the economic growth and resilience of its host communities beyond its mining operations.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of SROL's agricultural support programmes is crucial for the economic development of its host communities. By providing resources and training to local farmers, SROL is helping to improve agricultural productivity and income stability, which are vital for the livelihoods of many families in the region. This initiative not only supports the local economy but also strengthens the relationship between the mining company and the communities it operates in. Such programmes can serve as a model for other companies in the extractive industries to promote sustainable development and community engagement.
