What's Happening?
The Atlantic Coast Conference announced that Syracuse and Wake Forest will kick off the 2027 NCAA football season with a Week 0 game in Toronto. This will be the first NCAA college football game played at BMO Field, home to the CFL's Toronto Argonauts
and MLS's Toronto FC. The game is scheduled for August 28 or 29, with the exact date and time to be confirmed. ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips expressed excitement about showcasing college football to an international audience, highlighting the opportunity to display the energy of the sport to a diverse crowd.
Why It's Important?
This event represents a strategic move to expand the reach of NCAA football beyond the United States, potentially increasing the sport's international fan base. By hosting the game in Toronto, the ACC aims to tap into the Canadian market, which could lead to new revenue streams and partnerships. The international exposure may also enhance the visibility of the participating universities, attracting prospective students and athletes. This initiative could pave the way for more NCAA games to be held outside the U.S., further globalizing college sports.
