Smorgasburg, the popular outdoor food market, is set to return for its 16th season in April, featuring 74 vendors, including 22 newcomers. The market will open at Williamsburg’s Marsha P. Johnson State Park and Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill. This year’s
lineup highlights the diversity of New York’s food scene, with nearly half of the new vendors being immigrant-founded or based on family recipes. New offerings include Korean BBQ, Indian comfort food, Colombian street food, and plant-based tacos. The market will operate weekly through October, with additional locations at the World Trade Center and a new restaurant on Governors Island.
Why It's Important?
The return of Smorgasburg with new vendors underscores the dynamic and evolving nature of New York City's culinary landscape. It provides a platform for food entrepreneurs to showcase their cultural heritage and innovative culinary creations. This event not only supports small businesses and immigrant entrepreneurs but also enriches the local food culture, offering residents and visitors a taste of global cuisines. The inclusion of plant-based options reflects a growing trend towards sustainable and health-conscious eating, aligning with broader shifts in consumer preferences.

As Smorgasburg opens its doors, it is expected to attract food enthusiasts and tourists, boosting local tourism and the economy. The market's expansion to new locations, including a restaurant on Governors Island, indicates potential growth and increased accessibility.
