Kempinski Hotels, Europe's oldest luxury hospitality group, has announced the acquisition of Augustine Hotel in Prague. This marks a significant strategic shift for the company towards an asset-heavier approach under the leadership of CEO Barbara Muckermann.
The acquisition is the first for Kempinski in over 50 years, since its investment in Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich in 1970. Augustine Hotel, located in the historic Malá Strana beneath Prague Castle, is part of the Augustinian Monastery of St. Thomas, a site with over 800 years of history. The hotel features 101 guest rooms, including 20 suites, and retains many original architectural elements. Kempinski plans to invest in design-led refurbishments while preserving the building's historic character. The acquisition is seen as a rare opportunity to secure a heritage asset in a top-tier European luxury destination.
