Dr. Nieca Goldberg, a cardiologist and clinical associate professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, recommends baking as a healthier cooking method for proteins like fish and chicken to promote heart health. According to Goldberg, baking reduces
the intake of unhealthy fats compared to frying, which often involves oils or butter that add extra calories and saturated fats. For instance, a traditional fried chicken serving can contain about 800 calories, whereas a baked version might have significantly fewer calories and fats. The advice aligns with findings that link high consumption of fried foods to increased risks of coronary artery disease, anxiety, and depression. Goldberg also suggests using air fryers as a healthier alternative, as they eliminate the need for added oils, thus reducing fat content by up to 74% compared to deep-fried meals.
