What's Happening?
Vermont Green Football Club has partnered with Vermont Works for Women to support the club's inaugural women's soccer season. The initiative, named 'More Green More Good,' aims to expand opportunities for female athletes and promote gender equity across
the state. Three women-owned businesses have joined as inaugural partners, pledging financial support for each home goal scored. Vermont Works for Women, established in 1987, focuses on gender equity and career support for women and youth. Vermont Green FC, a member of the United Soccer League, is launching its women's team this summer.
Why It's Important?
This partnership represents a significant step towards advancing gender equity in sports, a field historically dominated by men. By supporting women's soccer, Vermont Green FC and Vermont Works for Women are contributing to the broader movement for pay equity and female empowerment in athletics. The collaboration also highlights the role of sports as a platform for social change, encouraging community engagement and economic opportunities for women in Vermont.
What's Next?
The 'More Green More Good' initiative will be showcased at upcoming games, with partners sharing information about their programs. An on-field presentation is scheduled for June 22, highlighting the collaboration's impact. As the women's team begins its season, the partnership is expected to inspire further community involvement and support for women's sports.
