A comprehensive global study has assessed energy drinks from all six inhabited continents, revealing significant regional differences in their composition. The study, led by Pat Eckert, a certified water sommelier, evaluated energy drinks based on a 36-criteria
product quality index. This index focused on objectively verifiable characteristics such as caffeine and sugar content, vitamin presence, pasteurization, and packaging. The findings highlighted that European energy drinks are more likely to be pasteurized, while North American drinks predominantly use artificial sweeteners. In contrast, Asian energy drinks often contain real sugar. The study also noted that North America, despite being the largest market by revenue, ranked last in overall product quality. The results were announced in Montreal, with Europe achieving the highest overall score, followed by Australia and Oceania.
