What's Happening?
Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with the Carmet Tug Company for the delivery of a Multi Cat 2309 vessel. The agreement was finalized at the Seawork exhibition in Southampton, with Damen set to deliver the tug within weeks, thanks to its stock
building program. Carmet, a Merseyside-based towage and workboat company, operates several second-hand Damen vessels and sought a new Multi Cat for rapid deployment. Damen's stock building approach allowed for the quick availability of the vessel, which will be customized to meet Carmet's specifications, including the installation of a NOx Reduction System to comply with IMO Tier III standards.
Why It's Important?
The swift delivery of the Multi Cat 2309 underscores the effectiveness of Damen's stock building strategy, which allows for rapid response to client needs. This approach not only benefits companies like Carmet, which require quick access to reliable vessels, but also sets a precedent in the maritime industry for efficient supply chain management. The inclusion of environmentally friendly technology, such as the NOx Reduction System, highlights the industry's shift towards sustainable practices. This development could influence other shipbuilders to adopt similar strategies, promoting faster delivery times and environmental compliance.
What's Next?
Damen is preparing the vessel for delivery by July 3, ensuring it meets Carmet's requirements and UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency standards. The successful execution of this contract may lead to further collaborations between Damen and Carmet, as well as other maritime companies seeking efficient and sustainable solutions. The maritime industry will likely monitor this partnership as a model for future transactions, potentially leading to increased adoption of stock building programs and environmentally friendly technologies.
