What's Happening?
Above Security, a cybersecurity startup founded in Israel, has successfully raised $50 million in funding to address the increasing threat of insider risks within organizations, particularly those posed by AI systems. The funding round was led by Ballistic
Ventures, Merlin Ventures, and Norwest, with additional participation from Jump Capital and QPV Ventures. Established in 2025 by Aviv Nahum and Amir Boldo, both veterans of the elite Unit 8200 intelligence branch, the company focuses on detecting risks originating from within organizations, including those from employees and autonomous AI systems. The startup's platform is designed to track behavior across identity systems, endpoints, software platforms, and AI environments, reconstructing activity patterns to determine intent. This approach aims to reduce false positives and limit the need for manual investigations, a common challenge in cybersecurity operations.
Why It's Important?
The rise of AI systems within organizations has introduced new risks that traditional security models are not equipped to handle. As AI agents gain access to internal systems and begin acting autonomously, they become insiders in everything but name, posing significant security challenges. Above Security's platform addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive solution that tracks both human and AI behavior, offering insights that can prevent potential breaches. This development is crucial for enterprises, especially those operating in cloud-based environments, as it helps mitigate the risk of insider threats, which account for a significant share of cybersecurity incidents. The investment in Above Security highlights the growing recognition of the need for advanced security solutions in the face of evolving technological landscapes.
What's Next?
Above Security has been selected as one of 35 companies in the 2026 Cybersecurity Startup Accelerator, run by CrowdStrike, Amazon Web Services, and NVIDIA. This selection is expected to enhance the company's growth and integration capabilities across various identity, endpoint, and SaaS systems. As organizations continue to adopt AI technologies, the demand for solutions like those offered by Above Security is likely to increase. The company aims to expand its customer base, targeting organizations with more than 1,000 employees, and further develop its platform to address the complexities of insider threats in increasingly automated environments.
