What's Happening?
Cruiseabout, a cruise retail company, is expanding its presence in Australia by opening two new stores in Indooroopilly, Brisbane, and Doncaster, Melbourne. This expansion will bring the total number of Cruiseabout locations to 11 across the country.
The decision to increase its physical retail footprint comes in response to a 9.5% year-on-year increase in the number of Australians taking cruises, as reported by the Cruise Lines International Association's 2026 Source Market Report. General Manager Brad Kennedy attributes the growth to the complexity of cruise purchases, which involve various factors such as itinerary, cruise line, ship size, and luxury level. The new stores will provide face-to-face expertise for ocean, river, and expedition itineraries, and the company is currently hiring team leaders and consultants for these locations.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Cruiseabout's retail presence highlights the growing demand for cruise vacations in Australia, reflecting a broader trend in the travel industry. As more Australians choose cruising as a preferred vacation option, the need for specialized retail services that offer personalized advice and long-term client relationships becomes crucial. This growth in the cruise sector can have significant economic implications, potentially boosting local economies through increased tourism spending and creating job opportunities in retail and travel consultancy. Additionally, the expansion underscores the importance of physical retail spaces in providing customer confidence and personalized service in an increasingly digital world.
