What's Happening?
The NFL has announced that the Dallas Cowboys will face the Baltimore Ravens in an international game in Brazil during the 2026 season. This game, part of the 2026 Rio Game, will take place in Week 3 at the historic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The stadium, known for hosting the 1950 and 2014 World Cup finals and the 2016 Olympics opening ceremony, has a capacity of over 78,000. This marks the third consecutive year the NFL will host a regular-season game in Brazil, following previous games in Sao Paulo. The 2026 season will feature a record nine international games, including venues in Paris, Munich, Madrid, Mexico City, Melbourne, and London.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of international games in the NFL schedule underscores the league's strategy to expand its global presence and fan base. By hosting games in diverse locations like Brazil, the NFL is tapping into new markets and increasing its international appeal. This move not only enhances the league's brand but also provides teams like the Cowboys and Ravens with unique opportunities to engage with international fans. The expansion of international games could lead to increased revenue streams and partnerships, benefiting the league and its teams financially and culturally.
