What's Happening?
Lilia Litkovska presented her 'Firefly' collection at her first official runway show on the Paris calendar. The collection draws inspiration from the resilience and warmth found in the darkness of Kyiv's power outages. Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine,
Litkovska continues to manufacture her designs in the country, facing logistical challenges such as frequent power cuts. The collection features cocoon-like forms, asymmetric silhouettes, and deconstructed tailoring, with models and guests donning headlamps to symbolize inner light. The show concluded with black confetti, reminiscent of ash, falling from above.
Why It's Important?
Litkovska's decision to continue production in Ukraine highlights the intersection of fashion and socio-political resilience. By maintaining operations in a war-torn region, the designer not only supports local industry but also brings global attention to the challenges faced by Ukrainians. This move underscores the role of fashion as a form of cultural expression and resistance. The collection's themes of protection and connection resonate with broader societal needs for solidarity and support during times of crisis.
