Albedo has announced the development of a new satellite bus, named Vicinity, designed for Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) missions. This satellite bus aims to enhance the capabilities of Albedo's orbital missions by incorporating deployable solar arrays,
upgraded flight software, and in-house electronics. The Vicinity bus is expected to provide 3 kW of peak power and host up to one ton of payload capacity, with a design lifespan of five years at an altitude of 320 km. Albedo's shift from commercial imagery to satellite-bus manufacturing reflects its strategy to capitalize on the benefits of VLEO, such as reduced power requirements and increased resilience against nuclear radiative blasts.
