What's Happening?
Comics creator Matt Kindt is reviving his popular series Mind MGMT with new issues that feature a special seal affirming the comics are '100 percent human-made.' This initiative is part of Kindt's new Flux House imprint at Oni Press, which aims to ensure
that no AI chatbots or large language models are used in the creation of these comics. The seal is intended to provide a positive assurance similar to a '100 percent natural' label on food, making it clear to readers how the comics were made. Kindt has licensed the seal through Creative Commons for use by other creators, hoping it will become a standardized label akin to the old Comics Code Authority approval stamp.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the '100 percent human-made' seal by Matt Kindt highlights a growing concern in the creative industry about the use of AI in artistic processes. As AI technology advances, creators are increasingly seeking ways to differentiate human-made art from AI-generated content. This move could influence other artists and publishers to adopt similar practices, potentially leading to a broader industry standard. It also reflects a cultural shift towards valuing human creativity and craftsmanship in an era where AI capabilities are rapidly expanding.
