What's Happening?
Laborde Products has successfully completed the repowering of the M/V Marne B, a vessel owned by Industry Terminal & Salvage, Inc. The project involved replacing the existing CAT 3512 main engines with Mitsubishi Tier 3 S12R engines, each rated at 1,350
horsepower at 1,600 RPM. This marks the second time Laborde Products has executed a repower using Mitsubishi R-series engines, which are widely used across the inland towing fleet. The decision to upgrade was driven by the need to maintain the vessel's productivity while transitioning from its legacy engine configuration. The new engines were selected to match the vessel's operating profile and horsepower requirements, ensuring long-term serviceability.
Why It's Important?
The repowering of the M/V Marne B is significant as it reflects a broader trend in the maritime industry towards upgrading and modernizing fleets to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. By opting for Mitsubishi Tier 3 engines, Industry Terminal & Salvage, Inc. is aligning with environmental standards that aim to reduce the carbon footprint of maritime operations. This move not only enhances the vessel's performance but also supports the industry's shift towards more sustainable practices. The successful completion of this project by Laborde Products demonstrates their capability in executing complex engine upgrades, which could lead to more such projects in the future, benefiting the maritime industry as a whole.
