What's Happening?
Marks & Spencer (M&S) has signed a new franchise agreement in the Philippines with PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAP), aiming to accelerate its international growth. The partnership will see M&S relaunch its fashion, home, beauty, and food offerings in the Philippines,
with the first store set to open in Manila's Glorietta. M&S has been present in the Philippines since 1984 and is now transitioning to a new franchise partner to support its growth ambitions. MAP, which already operates M&S franchises in Indonesia and Vietnam, will leverage its local expertise to enhance M&S's market presence.
Why It's Important?
This strategic move by M&S reflects its broader international strategy to strengthen its global brand through capital-light partnerships. By collaborating with established local partners like MAP, M&S can tap into local market knowledge and infrastructure, potentially increasing its competitiveness and market share in Southeast Asia. The expansion into the Philippines, a fast-growing market, aligns with M&S's goal to build a stronger international presence and cater to the rising demand for its products in the region.
