NPR has announced the finalists for its fifth annual College Podcast Challenge, showcasing a diverse array of student narratives from across the United States. The competition received entries from students at 75 colleges in 35 states, with topics ranging
from personal stories of grief and loss to explorations of cultural and social issues. Among the finalists is a podcast by a University of Vermont student who delves into themes of grief following the death of a family member. Other notable entries include a narrative from a Fordham University student addressing familial distance and dementia, and a Boston University student's exploration of clowns as symbols in protest movements. Each finalist will receive a $500 cash prize, with the grand prize winner, who will be announced in March, receiving $5,000. The winning podcasts will be featured on NPR programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
