What's Happening?
Rural Voices USA has launched a campaign urging Congress to pass legislation allowing year-round sales of E15 fuel. The campaign targets lawmakers in key agricultural states like Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. With farm income projected to decline by $4 billion in 2026, the group argues that year-round E15 sales would create a stable market for corn growers, potentially increasing corn demand by over 2 billion bushels annually. The initiative could support over 128,000 new jobs and add $25.8 billion to the U.S. economy. Ethanol, which E15 is a part of, already replaces significant amounts of imported crude oil, reducing foreign energy reliance.
Why It's Important?
The push for year-round E15 sales is crucial for the agricultural sector, particularly
for corn growers facing financial pressures. By expanding the market for corn, the legislation could provide much-needed economic relief and stability to rural communities. The potential job creation and economic boost highlight the broader benefits of supporting renewable energy sources. Additionally, reducing reliance on imported oil aligns with national energy security goals. The campaign reflects the agricultural community's demand for sustainable market solutions amid challenging economic conditions.
