What's Happening?
The Nova Tribe Community Association in Ramat Gan has expanded its sports activities by launching a new padel group aimed at survivors and bereaved families. This initiative is part of the association's broader effort to provide spaces for connection,
fitness, and recovery through sports. Padel, a rapidly growing racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, has gained popularity internationally and in Israel. The new padel group is held at the Padelir – Padel Israel Ramat Gan complex, with training sessions overseen by facility manager Roy Shapir and coach Lior Schwartzberg. The project, supported by the Ramat Gan Municipality, currently operates on four courts with plans for future expansion. Approximately 20 regular players are participating, with numbers increasing weekly.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is significant as it highlights the role of sports in community healing and support. By providing survivors and bereaved families with a platform for physical activity and social interaction, the Nova Tribe Community Association is fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. The program not only aims to improve physical health but also to offer emotional and social support, which is crucial for individuals dealing with trauma and loss. The involvement of the Ramat Gan Municipality underscores the importance of local government support in community-based initiatives. Additionally, the potential for participants to become elite athletes and possibly represent their community in international competitions, such as the Olympics, adds a layer of aspiration and pride.
What's Next?
The Nova Tribe Community Association plans to continue expanding its sports programs, with the possibility of increasing the number of padel courts and participants. The association also aims to develop additional initiatives both in Israel and globally, reinforcing its commitment to community support through sports. The Ramat Gan Municipality has pledged ongoing support, indicating potential future collaborations to enhance the program's reach and impact. As participation grows, the association may explore opportunities to integrate more sports and activities, further strengthening the community's resilience and cohesion.
