Nike has announced a new collaboration with Homecoming, a Lagos, Nigeria-based music festival and fashion label, to release a special edition of the Air Max Plus sneakers. This collaboration marks a significant milestone as Grace Ladoja, the founder of Homecoming, becomes
the first African woman to design a shoe for Nike. The sneakers are inspired by Ladoja's West African heritage and come in two distinct colorways: a black Pan African flag-inspired design and an orange 'African Sunrise' theme. The design incorporates unique elements such as a custom tight mesh inspired by African sponges and dipped toe boxes referencing West Africa's indigo dyeing tradition. Additional features include non-functional laces inspired by Nigeria's flamboyant style and removable charms like cowrie shells and golden Africa pendants. The sneakers will be available on April 23 through Nike's Snkrs app, following an exclusive launch at the Homecoming festival.
